An organic blueberry import program that's Homegrown

homegrowHomegrown Organic Farms announced a new organic blueberry import program in collaboration with Chilean grower Valles del Sur, one of the premier organic blueberry growers in Chile with over 1,000 acres in production and availability from October through March. Valles del Sur has been growing blueberries since 1991 in Chile’s most fertile land in the northern and southern regions of the country. Furthermore, 100 percent of the farm's organic blueberry production is Fair Trade USA certified.

This partnership will provide contra-seasonal program opportunities from October through March. It will compliment Homegrown’s current California and Oregon production and will allow the company to provide a year-round organic blueberry program to its customers.

In effort to maintain exceptional quality standards, the Chilean fruit will be packed in Kingsburg, CA, at the company’s flagship facility. This will allow the product to be inspected prior to shipment and ensure fresh-packed fruit for customers and consumers to enjoy.

“Solidifying an import program has been part of our strategic plan for several years and we are excited to partner with Valles del Sur for the 2020-21 blueberry import program," said Scott Mabs, chief executive officer for Homegrown Organic Farms. "The team in Chile greatly aligns with the mission, vision and values of Homegrown and operates in a very similar method of business. Together we are excited to bring their product to the US market and better serve our customs with a more robust organic blueberry program.”

“This new partnership is going to give us a single source program with unmatched consistency throughout the entire supply chain," said Stephen Paul, category director for Homegrown Organic Farms. "One outstanding grower and Homegrown’s domestic packing at our Kingsburg facility is a recipe for satisfied customers and consumers.”

The company expects to begin shipping their imported organic blueberries in October.
