Can-Am Pepper Co. is introducing a sustainable and healthy spaghetti squash exclusively to foodservice at booth No. 816 at PMA Foodservice in Monterey, CA.
The frozen spaghetti squash can be prepared in as little as two minutes and has a minimum shelf life of six months. The pre-peeled, cored and par-baked squash is a low-carb, nutrient-rich option for an entrée or side dish, which is both a great gluten-free pasta replacement and highly desired keto-friendly ingredient.
Consumers can feel good about helping the planet while feeling great about eating something nutritious. The Can-Am par-baked spaghetti squash is a sustainable product using vegetables not being sold into retail because of cosmetic blemishes. “We are excited to increase yields and recovery for the farm, while fixing a problem and creating a delicious product,” said Jammie Underhill, president of Can-Am Pepper Co.
With only eight net carbs per cup, spaghetti squash is a fantastic option to appeal to healthy and conscious eaters everywhere. Spaghetti squash can be eaten on Paleo, Keto, Atkins, South Beach, Whole 30 and gluten-free diets. The light buttery and nutty flavor of the stringy vegetable allows for versatility in preparation beyond just a pasta replacement.
“Try spaghetti squash in cuisines from around the world: Spaghetti Squash Cacio de Pepe, Spaghetti Squash Au-gratin, Spaghetti Squash Chow Mein, Spaghetti Squash Pad Thai, and Spaghetti Squash Bolognese, to name a few. Even Spaghetti Squash fritters and taco shells are delicious," said Donya Litowitz, product development for Can-Am Pepper Co.
Can-Am’s test kitchen can help provide ideas for using this under-utilized healthy and sustainable ingredient in foodservice.
