Family-owned-and-operated D'Arrigo Bros. Co. of New York Inc. has served the New York Metropolitan area for more than 50 years, offering a full line of the highest-quality fruit and vegetable items available every day of the week.
Gabriela D’Arrigo, a young generation member of the company, serves as marketing and communication director and organic buyer. In late December she said the stored apple condition was strong.
“Overall packinghouse volumes were up by approximately 15 percent, but it’s expected to drop down by about 15 percent after the New Year,” she said. “And so it will level out in the end.”
She added that the condition and quality of the stored apples was very good in December, but it will slowly drop as the stored season finishes out.
“Prices in December were extremely high and were holding at a strong price point,” explained D’Arrigo. “We expect this price point to continue as the demand remains strong and consistent.
“Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apple varieties have had a very strong year thus far,” she added.
D’Arrigo Bros. is located in a 75,000-square-foot facility on the Hunts Point Terminal Market, and it maintains a fleet of more than 50 trucks to deliver everything the fresh produce industry has to offer. It has also added organic items to its lineup.
In keeping up with market and client changes, a renovation of the company’s facility has been under way for several months.
“We will be continuing the renovation project into the New Year,” said D’Arrigo. “In tune with the renovation is our company rebranding initiative, which will launch in January. It showcases a more sophisticated and modern look, tone and feel for D’Arrigo Bros. Co. of New York.”
