Pret A Manger has unveiled a new plant-focused menu that features a heavy dose of avocados, much to the delight of the World Avocado Organization.
“We are thrilled to see avocados, the king of superfoods, at the heart of Pret’s new menu and expanded vegan offering,” said Xavier Equihua, chief executive officer of the World Avocado Organization, and president and CEO of the Washington, DC-based Peruvian Avocado Commission. “For example, of the 20 dishes added to the menu, an astonishing 40 percent feature avocados, reflecting the U.K.’s love affair with the fruit of life.
“We have seen consumer tastes evolving in all of Europe and the U.S., and avocados are the perfect addition for the health-conscious, and vegetarians and vegans alike,” Equihua added. “Take Pret’s new breakfast offering that includes avocado on toast and the roast mushroom and smashed avocado pot, which are both nutritionally balanced ways to start the day.”
Equihua also noted that Prets based in the United States and France will also serve avocados in many of their menu offerings.
“WAO is looking forward to working with one of our favorite ‘fast healthy’ brands,” he said.
Pret A Manger, a gourmet shop known for its freshly prepared sandwiches and salads, has more than 450 locations worldwide, with shops in the United Kingdom, the United States, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai serving more than 300,000 customers daily.
