This time one month ago the Southeast Produce Council held its 2020 Southern Exposure. Those were the good old days, and boy, what most of us wouldn’t give to go to a trade show now.
The recent cancellations of Viva Fresh and CPMA are making people within the industry realize how much they miss trade shows. Not only did a great amount of business get done, they provided a chance to catch up with friends we see only a few times a year.
Another aspect of trade shows that attendees thoroughly enjoyed was reliving the event via The Produce News Sightings pages. As COVID-19 runs roughshod throughout the country — the world — many in the produce industry are hard at work getting food on retailer shelves. Of course, a lot of that hard work is happening behind the scenes from home offices, makeshift or otherwise.
As a great many people within the produce world are hunkered down during this time, The Produce News calls upon you to bring the industry together, even as we work apart.
Take pictures of yourself in your home office and send them to us. Let your friends in the business see how this great industry is dealing during these difficult times. Promote products or feel free to let your personality shine through (pets are encouraged). As often as possible we will share these Home Sightings — via email, online and in print.
Whatever role you play in the produce industry, get in touch with us at newsdesk@theproducenews.com or levitt@theproducenews.com. Tell us what you are doing, what challenges you are facing and what is being done to solve them to keep the industry functioning as smoothly as possible. We will let our readers know the efforts being made to keep our businesses going.
