With produce department square footage at a premium, building effective displays that utilize space efficiently has never been more important. Traditional bin displays, with their large footprint have given way to slimmer designs as produce shippers continue to refine these important merchandising tools.
Rainier Fruit Co. of Selah, WA, has taken the concept of these displays one step further with its new modular, custom graphics bins. “The real beauty of these is that the print area is fully customizable on a sleeve that slides over the bin,” said Andy Tudor, vice president of development. Once a promotion is complete, the sleeves can be easily changed out to feature new graphics for the next promotion. “Some retailers that ran our Pears for Pairs promotion, simply replaced the sleeve with one for Lady Alice apples,” said Tudor.
The bins take up a little as 60 inches by 40 inches for a single-bin display or as much as 120 inches by 80 inches for a four-bin display, making them adaptable to almost any space. The bin depth is also variable with each bin able to hold up to two boxes of apples or pears. “The fact that the retailer can place high-graphic displays in high-traffic areas allows them to offer a merchandising solution without changing their current plan-o-grams or store signage program,” said Tudor.
According to Tudor, these high-impact bins can feature bulk displays, bagged product or both at the same time — each with unique signage to help drive incremental sales. “New varieties or special programming can fall flat without marketing materials and displays to tell their story and help introduce them,” Tudor said. “These displays provide a much-needed tool to help facilitate success.”
