The New York Apple Association is kicking off the holiday season with new poly bags, a Holiday Extravaganza Retail Display contest, a 25th anniversary social media celebration, and partnership with Simply Recipes.
The high-graphic three- and five-pound poly bag design features an image of a modern apple orchard and Apples from New York logo, along with colored bands that stretch across the bag. There are three distinct colors for the new poly bags: red, gold and green.
“We have had favorable comments from retailers about the poly bags and they appreciate the color breaks provided by the different colored bands,” said Cynthia Haskins, president of the New York Apple Association. “The bags also match the graphics on our display shippers and price signs.”
The popular Apple Country poly bag will continue to appear in the marketplace throughout the season.
NYAA is offering up the second annual Holiday Extravaganza Retail Display contest. Retailers across the country are invited to participate in the fun cross-merchandising opportunities, from showcasing New York apples with baking ingredients to building large fresh cider displays — even working apples into charcuterie plates with cheese and dip pairings.
All a retailer needs to do to participate in this year’s contest is snap a few photos of the store display and submit them by email to info@nyapplecontest.com. Grand prizes include three first place $500 gift cards, five second place $250 gift cards, and 10 third place $100 gift cards. Enter Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.
This year, New York Apple Association is celebrating 25 years of championing New York state apples and apple growers. To mark the occasion, the association is sharing 25 of the best apple recipes around, showcasing all the delicious ways to enjoy the bounty of New York’s orchards.
The celebration kicked off with five mouthwatering apple breakfast recipes and then featured five delicious lunch entrees, dinners, snacks and holiday choices. The recipes will appear on social media and will be made available to retailers to place on their website and social media platforms.
NYAA is making how-to recipe videos available to retailers to engage consumers on their social media platforms. The recipe videos run from one to three minutes, during which instructions are given on how to make quick and easy apple recipes. The videos inspire consumers’ cooking creativity and provide their quick-to-view format on social media.
NYAA has partnered with Fexy Media, a Seattle-based media company, to line up a second wave of recipes for this season, including apple recipes for a holiday party. Simply Recipes is a family and cooking blog with hundreds of recipes for the home cook and has been named as No. 1 of the Top 25 Food Blogs for multiple years. Recipes include Apple Chutney, Cranberry Apple Stuffed Pork Loin, Kale Waldorf Salad, Jeweled Carrot Salad with Apple and Pomegranate and Caramel Apple Nachos. They will appear on Simply Recipes blog along with Apples from New York’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
